Prof. Dr. Hayal Köksal – Academic Biography

 Hayal Köksal is Professor of Educational Sciences at Istanbul Kent University (Türkiye), teacher educator, educational researcher, author, and international educational innovator with nearly five decades of professional experience.

Her work has focused on teacher education, educational quality, project-based learning, educational leadership, peace education, and collaborative learning. She served for approximately twenty years at Boğaziçi University and later contributed to international teacher education initiatives through Kingston University London.

Between 2004 and 2008, she played a pioneering role in the localisation and academic development of Microsoft’s Innovative Teachers Programme in Türkiye, supporting teachers in integrating technology through project-based and collaborative learning. She has also led numerous national and international professional development initiatives for educators.

Since 1997, she has been developing the IMECE Framework, a human-centred collaborative learning model inspired by the Turkish tradition of collective cooperation. This approach has been implemented internationally through the International ICT Seagulls Projects, engaging more than 5,000 students, teachers, academics, and community members in collaborative educational projects.

Prof. Köksal is the Founder and President of the Innovative IMECE Association (YİMEDER) and serves as Director General (Türkiye) of the World Council for Total Quality & Excellence in Education (WCTQEE).

Her current research explores Human-Centred Collaborative Intelligence, Artificial Intelligence in Education, Responsible AI, Educational Transformation, Teacher Education, and the IMECE Framework as a culturally grounded model for collaborative intelligence in the AI era.

She is the author of more than twenty books, numerous academic publications, and invited keynote presentations at national and international conferences. Her recent work includes the IMECE Declaration (2026), introducing a human-centred conceptual framework for collaborative intelligence in AI-shaped educational futures.
